Living with Histamine Intolerance & MCAS: The Struggle, The Lessons, & The Support You Deserve

For over 30 years, I’ve worked as an esthetician, helping people achieve healthier, more radiant skin. Over time, I realized that true skin health starts deep within the gut. That understanding led me to become a certified Primal Health Coach, and now, I’m working toward my national board certification with the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches.
I built The Dirty Esthetician/HLC to help others heal from the inside out—because that’s exactly what I’ve had to do for myself.
Why This Work Became Personal
I never expected to struggle with my gut health issues the way I have over the last couple of years. But here I am, navigating histamine intolerance and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), and let me tell you—these conditions impact everything.
I lost my gallbladder 10 years ago and my appendix about three years ago. Since then, my gut health has become more complicated than ever. I’ve dealt with food sensitivities, unpredictable flare-ups, heat intolerance, skin flushing, discomfort, sleep struggles, and nervous system dysregulation. The hardest part? Giving up foods I love, adjusting to a new way of living, and learning how to travel and enjoy the outdoors without losing control over my environment.
But through it all, I’ve learned how to manage symptoms, support my liver and bile flow, regulate my nervous system, and reclaim my life—and now, I want to help others do the same.
The Gut-Skin Connection: It’s Not Just About Food
Many people don’t realize that histamine intolerance and MCAS don’t just affect digestion—they can cause:
• Skin issues (flushing, rashes, acne, dullness)
• Sleep disturbances
• Nervous system dysregulation (anxiety, fight-or-flight responses)
• Unpredictable symptoms triggered by food, stress, and environment
• Pain or discomfort that comes and goes with no clear explanation
The connection between the gut, skin, brain, and nervous system is undeniable. When one is inflamed, the others suffer.
Building a Program for Those Who Need It Most
Right now, my coaching programs and probiotics focus on general gut and skin health, but I recognize that histamine intolerance and MCAS require a different level. Because I’ve personally witnessed the frustration, confusion, and trial-and-error process, I’m actively creating a comprehensive program for those struggling with these conditions.
In the meantime, I offer à la carte coaching sessions for anyone who needs guidance while searching for the root cause of their symptoms. Whether you need help:
• Identifying food & environmental triggers
• Finding the right supplements
• Regulating your nervous system
• Navigating doctor’s appointments & advocating for yourself
• Creating a sustainable way to manage symptoms without feeling trapped
…I am here for you.
You Are Not Alone
If you’re struggling with histamine intolerance, MCAS, or gut issues that seem impossible to figure out, I want you to know this: I see you, I understand you, and I’ve been there too.
It’s frustrating. It’s exhausting. It can impact every area of your life, including your relationships, mental health, and sense of freedom. But you don’t have to go through it alone.
With love and a little grit,
Julia | The Dirty Esthetician/HLC
